Fast-track electrification of the 392 bus route in Redfern and Waterloo
Residents of Waterloo have long raised concerns about the 392 bus service, particularly along Raglan Street, where the constant noise and disruption affect daily life. Transport for NSW has confirmed the route cannot be shifted, so the only real solution is to make the service quieter.
Electrification offers that solution. The NSW Government’s Zero Emissions Bus Transition Plan will replace the fleet with cleaner, quieter electric vehicles, cutting noise, reducing pollution and providing more reliable, comfortable services. The 392 operates out of the Port Botany Depot, which is already earmarked for electrification under Stage 1 of the program. Under the current delivery program, roll out across the Greater Sydney region is set to be delivered by 2035… That means it could be 10 years from now!
Bringing forward electrification of the 392 — rather than waiting years — would give residents relief now, while also delivering environmental benefits and modernising a key local service.
We call on the NSW Government and Transport for NSW to:
Fast-track electrification of the 392 bus service, and
Expedite the conversion of Port Botany Depot to support the rollout of electric buses.
This will ensure the 392 corridor benefits sooner from quieter streets, cleaner air and sustainable public transport.
