OUR PLATFORM

When I talk with people across Sydney, I hear the same three things: they want a city that’s more affordable, more fun, and gets the basics right – like garbage collection. Since joining Council, we’ve started to shift the direction.

Affordability

Housing is the biggest issue in Sydney—and for too long, Council didn’t act on the tools it had.

That’s changing. We’re now increasing developer contributions for affordable housing, ensuring that new development helps Community Housing Providers build homes for the people who need them. Prior to this change, the City wasn’t even on track to meet a quarter of its own modest Affordable Housing Target of 7.6% by 2036. This change should get us closer to half. It’s a start—and we’re pushing to go further.

Nightlife and Culture

Sydney should be alive after dark. But after years of lockouts and lockdowns, it’s struggled to come back—held back by red tape, venue closures and outdated rules.

That’s why the City is now rolling out Special Entertainment Precincts across areas like Central Sydney, Oxford Street, Kings Cross and Chippendale. These precincts give live music and performance venues access to extended trading hours, streamlined approvals, and 80% liquor licence fee discounts. For the first time, venues can trade later without needing a development application, so long as they host regular live performance. We're also introducing tailored sound controls that give venues certainty while still respecting neighbourhood amenity.

This means fewer barriers, more music, and a more dynamic, inclusive nightlife for our city.

Council Services

Residents expect the basics to be done well—clean streets, reliable bin collections, and quality local services.

The City is now developing a new insourcing framework—focused on improving service delivery, rebuilding internal capability, and creating a clear pathway to bring more services back in-house where it makes sense to.

It’s about restoring accountability, lifting standards, and making sure Council delivers for residents—not just for contractors.
